first i'm french and my english is quite poor but i need some help for my rocket stove. My question is about the heat insulating. I'll build a rocket stove sooon, i already create the roof exit but i didnt isolate the outside part, is it a mistake ? thanks for your answer. Jules

It will make the stove more difficult to start from cold. It can also cause a condensation stall during the burn - where the moisture level in the chimney causes a sudden loss of draft - even to the point of reversing flow.
You'll have to allow much more heat out in order to maintain draft when compared to an insulated/isolated chimney.

Would a couple inches/5cm of perlite be adequate to insulate the exterior chimney?

A picture would help, because this could mean (in English) the part from the rocket-heater to the ceiling, or the chimney out to the roof. The part from the rocket-heater to the ceiling or wall does not need to be insulated.
