Before I burn down my house, I think I need to talk to someone who already has.
I was given about two hundred fire bricks, and being insanely frugal, I had to find a use for them. My basement shop needs a heater. Bingo! Was going to build a conventional wood chunk stove like what I grew up feeding in Vermont when I met a fellow who was trying to cast a rocket fire box, port, and riser. Needless to say, I was instantly enamored of the concept. But I had already built the fire box, using refractory cement for mortar. Well then. Why not a horizontal riser on top of the fire box? And why not a turbine type port, so as not to restrict the air flow? And why not use the excess 16 gauge sheet metal I had on hand to make a bell to fit my six inch riser?
I recently completed the mortar work and would like to get some feedback before committing to the bell and the insulated chimney I have in mind. Will now try to attach some photos. That should do for a start. I have sort of documented the build.
thanks

Frank, for pics, use hostingpics. It's the easiest site i know off. Just click twice on the pic, once uploaded, right click on it, click on "copy image URL or adress" then paste it here, or paste it in the dialogue box for inserting images.

Thanks, but I am not at all competent in this. Was trying to attach from my photo gallery in my Surface Tablet. At this point, I have no idea how to apply your suggestion.
When I attempted the attachment it seemed to be working. A bar with movement inside came up along with the option to attach again. Did I need to wait for the bar to go solid, or something? Never saw the like, before.
