I have some file cabinets I would like to use for these purposes, but would like to know if anyone has already done this. i intend to add mass to outside of the "barrel" and both inside and outside of the bell. The parallel flat sides make me want to run pipe between them, to create a heat exchanger

Most file cabinets I've seen are fairly thin metal, maybe only 1/2 - 2/3 the thickness of a drum. While that might make for quick heat transfer, I doubt they would hold up well. IMO

Ron, you mean the stuff with drawers etc? A picture might be in order? Otherwise, i've been on the same lines. Tho i have changed my mind now. I'd rather pour concrete around the rectangular form. donkey32.proboards.com/post/7590/threadThis was meant to be transportable.

Interesting... I've saved a standard 24U 19" network cabinet for a rocket pizza oven project. The idea is to make a single skinned bell/oven inside of the frame then fill in with insulation to make it flush.

I've thought about taking one, lining the bottom for charcoal and using it as a smoker.

i think it would work fine. i have an old metal cabinet with several shelves in it. i thought about using that and turn the shelves into bells stacked. so the flow zigzagged to the top and out. could brick or cob over it for some mass same as your filing cabinet idea.
i like the smoker idea too. i have an old upright freezer im going to make a smoker out of soon.
