Well, just wondering where to put the cleanouts, how to maqke them too. There's one which gonna go at the bottom of the chimney, which will be openable easily for priming if need be. But it will be at floor level or nearly. No good for chimney sweeping. Do i raise that door, and when the sweeps comes, he will have to vacuum lower down the stuff he will have swept?
Then i will have one at the bottom of the second bell. do i make a blast gate between bell and chimney? (bell will be metallic big 2m high 1m deep and .75m wide covered by bricks and concrete, 20cm thick all around)
Peter, if you happen to see this, i seem to remember that you said the first bell should always be bigger than the second, is that right?
First bell will be a 750l metallic tank that i have, set up as a barrel/radiator. Opening downdraft into a concrete bell, with a cleanout at the bottom. The question is, if i make a hole at the bottom of the tank, which isn't the whole size of the bell, will that partition impede with the functioning of the bell? Or it will still act as a single bell?
Cleanouts are just for cleaning fly ash? No need to brush the insides of a bell after several years of use?

I cannot speak for creosote in bells But i have cleaned creosote out of flue runs 8 feet down stream from the fire box in a masonry heater. Client was burning mostly wet wood in the first 6 months of operation...

Peter, if you happen to see this, i seem to remember that you said the first bell should always be bigger than the second, is that right? Yes, I think I've made that remark but I am not so sure anymore. The bell system is much more flexible than that. There's just a handful of principles you need to obey and the rest is your choice. Even the man who wrote the first articles about bells which I came across, Alex Chrenov, was surprised to see a construction adhering to just the most basic rules and worked right out of the box. Try to grok the physics exactly and you are no longer "a stranger in a strange land".

Peter, i think i will try to have the second bell bigger than the first one. Since i haven't got much choice. Mind you, the first will be bare metal mostly. And the second one will be massonry, so this might tame the effects of ahaving the bigger bell after.

Satamax. just do not make a second bell to bigger:) Since the first one is a metal than the heat extraction will be quite big. If you then make a big masonry bell after, might happend that it will extract so much heat thet there will be a possibility of a chimney stall i think.

Robert, the first one would be 4.75m² if left plain metal. I will most certainly have only two sides of it radiating directly. The rest will be covered by bricks or stones. Then, i will have a downdraft flue, an elbow that gonna feed into a 6.55m² metal ta,nk, which will be covered with bricks and concrete. After that there's 8m of chimney.
All of this powered by a proper 22cm (9 incher or so) round flue elements batch box. I will have a priming door in the chimney too.
10.8m² for a 22cm core, i thought was conservative, no?
Core will be 5cm thick heavy firebricks slabs with air entrained concrete around it to insulate. Heat riser tona fireclay with grog flue elements. I can even lenghten the heat riser, having a fair bit of tubes.

I couldn't find any bigger tube, otherwise i would have gone bigger There's barely any insulation in there!
