thanks peter and max. do you think it is possible with a 7" J? i thought about making two bypass flaps to help it - one between the top of the barrels and one from the top of the second tower to the chimney

Adiel, mine is a 7 incher. Well, 18cm squarish flue elements, as i often use. There's three active barrels, the first one has vermiculite up to 12 cm from the top or so. And i tell you, with 8m of 10cm chimney, i could easily put another two barrels.

Yes but yours is a batch box. You think it will work with a J?

Too much i would say. That's 5.58m² for three barrels. IIRC, an 8 J can cope with 6m² single bell. So double bell, you need 5.4m² total. May be doing it the way i've done, with the second bottom barrel as a downdraft channel rather than a pure bell.
