Ernie Wisner seem to have spoken about 10 and 12 too. There's a quote from in the rocket debugging facts, in the librzary!

One time I stacked a 12 inch J-tube out of firebrick.. It was ridiculous, just to look at the thing.. I didn't bother with lighting it or anything, just laughed at it, shook my head and kicked it apart..

I would've had to spend at least a few hours watching that thing roar!

mainly my question was, if there was a point that it was just too big and performance fell off. bigger core bigger bench? or are there limits to that?

I think there's a point, where the draft is soo unequal in different parts of the cross section, that it becomes temperamental. That's where the batch rocket shines i think.

So, you feel a 12in batch rocket would not be temperamental?
where do you see inequality of cross sections being an issue?

Time, sorry, i didn't get it across. I was talking about inequalities of draft across the section, due for exaple to the elbows, inequality which wouldn't be compensated by any laminar flow effect. Big pièces of wood scatered also would create this. But if Ernie talks about a 12 incher, he must have made one at least. So it's possible. For this, you should try to start a conversation at permies, and try to get him involved.
HTH.

when i started on this pyromanics night mare i did my normal research. look at images and cut them up in my mind and add my twist and make my own. that was stupid !! most of the rocket stoves i was seeing were metal and im a metal kinda guy. so i had some 12 inch spiral pipe laying around with a 90 degree elbow. so i burried the elbow in the ground with a metal fire box i built. used gear oil barrels around the 12 inch pipe to hold dirt for cheap insulation. went 2 55 g barrels high the had 12 pipe go 10 feet sideways on the ground with no vertical rise at all. it was barbaric but it roared!! saw dust or oil oil or what ever i could jam in the feed burned. i now know it wouldnt have lasted being metal. as much trouble as i have had with my green house rmh its amasing the big beast worked so well as it did. one time i hooke up a 5 foot piece of pipe and feed sawdust down it. it did ok for as primitive as it was it would smoke as it feed in piles because of a burr in the feed. ill get pics soon

would the bigger system produce more heat or is there only so much to be had from wood?

not sure wood im sure has limits to tempature. but the volume of heat i would think would be more. it would be a waist to not harvest it most of the heat. waste or not they are fun. id love to make a big !! rocket stove. i mean freakishly big one that would take the gold metal for the biggest. then run it open with out a barrel and see how high you couold get the flames. maybe shoot some gas in to get the flames real hi. i might even put a car fuel injector in to really make it crazy. crazy dreams i guess.
