hi newbe so be nice trying to implement the maths from Example: 15cm x Π x 5cm = 235cm² which is bigger than the 176cm² of the heat riser CSA. into my system im running at the moment.. ive got a 3 inch burn tunnel and 3 inch riser into a propane tank with a 20cm gap and a 6 inch exhaust can someone please do me and example with my measurements so i can "lightbulb moment" trying to understand all of this, its great fun! thanks in advance and looking forward to inventing a few more things (distillery is on my list!)

Well, i won't do the measurements for you, but rather ask you a few questions.
What material do you plan for the burn tunel and heat riser?
20cm gap That's top gap or side gap? Have you thought about insulation?
If you realy have a gap of 20cm between any given "wall" and the flue, that's 148square inches. More than needed for even a 6 incher.

More than needed for even a 6 incher. thats fine helps me learn thanks materials, mild box 3"x3" burn tunnel and riser. just found someone who has used refractory cement rated to 2300c and put it around the burn tunnel so when it burns out it will be fine..... might try and get some of that! now the riser... i could just insulate it with cavity insulation? does the gap around the sides of the riser cause a bottleneck? 20cm is between the riser and top of the barrel the gap is somewhere near 14cm from one side of the riser to the cylinder wall how sis you come up with the 148 sq inches? the equation would be really useful to me really sorry about all the questions, im young and enthusiastic (id buy all the books but dont have the funds)

so that would be 15cm x 3.142 x 5cm = 235cm² alright now that makes sense! thanks! now going to go back and re read the post and work out my measurements
