Hi everybody.
Any idea of what might be the temperature of orange glowing firebrick?
In the green machine, it's recurent that after one hour or so of burning, i have the whole end of the firebox and heat riser glowing orange, about the same collor as the embers, sometimes brighter orange. I have a 7/8 inch thick refractory fireclay tube as the heat riser, and it's surounded in the bottom part by a mix of refractory castable (mapegrout) and vermiculite this is in turn insulated by a layer of rockwool. So, when it's red, it might be red all over the place. Thankfully, i haven't tried a metal heat riser in this one!

Perfect Karl.
So, the heat riser bottom is between 1000 and 1200C°
Thanks a lot.

I would think that orange embers are rather at 800-900°C. As far as I know, colors in a kiln are not so easy to estimate. An IR thermometer would help, but I would rather think that 900 - 1000°C are hot enough. The mass of the bricks lower the temperature but a lightweight riser could maybe reach 1000-1100°C. A potter around?
