indeed, it is not a problem to add a valve to close the air inlet. I was mainly talking about the door. Can't you reverse it, and open it upwards? That way, there is no risk of breaking the glass.
(You can buy and replace everything, but this has a financial cost, but also an ecological cost, and since we strive to make efficient stoves, I think this should be taken into account)

Great work so far, you certainly got a good deal with the ceramic glass, that would cost me £30 where I live. Yes and it would have cost me $100.00 here in Australia.

I miserably failed in keeping you posted with the outcome of this stove project... Sorry for that. The stove has been finalised, installed and keeping my hut warm in winter for more than 2 years! So happy about it. Here is a picture of the final stove in context. And a screenshot from a video taken through the glass at the top of the barrel to see the double vortex. The video is good but it was a lot of work to make this upper window perfectly sealed and dismountable for cleaning... I gave up cleaning it after the first month so I would not recommend it, although it is very rewarding to observe the double vortex
Many thanks for all your essential contributions that made this build a success.
