The glass window into the top box of my DSR2 slowly accumulates some grey deposits. The larger bits are clearly particles of ash blown up from the firebox, sticking to the glass. There is also a kind of grey film covering most of the glass. Is this very fine ash dust?
These deposits are not the same as the black soot from a slow burn. They don't burn off even when the glass reaches more than 570C (1058F), which it sometimes does.
These grey deposits seem easy to clean off when I have access to the inside of the glass, but I don't have an opening door into the top box, so I can't clean it easily.
Are these grey deposits normal?

It's normal fly-ash, mostly calcium carbonate and calcium oxide. It wipes off with a damp cloth.
