Do you mean 2 sand, 1 clay powder, and use this mortar to bond arlite aggregate, making a kind of concrete? yes but it's for the oven roof so not exposed to very high temperatures - probably not much higher than 450 c and of course an oven isn't as testing an environment as a riser or firebox.For refractory use there's lots of advice on here from other , far more experienced builders.

thanks again for all the info.
A good point about weight.... Yes the floor can take it, I just removed a 3000kg masonry kitchen from the same spot!
The last doubt I still have was about the slab on top of the firebox, I'm looking for a refratory slab, having trouble finding one, maybe I'll try the arlite cast slab. Will it fire over time, I can't imagine it'll be very hard until fired....or maybe corbelled brick?
