Hi All;
Was unhappy with the first door I made for my batchbox. It just wasn't durable enough.
As my batch is in my auto shop the stove would be unattended most of the time, sparks flying out the primary air intake were a big concern.
Way to many flammable materials nearby to allow that.
I decided to copy an old design barrel stove kit called a Sotz. Primary air enters at the top of the door and rushes down a C channel on the inside,getting heated and entering the box just above the floor.
I decided to leave the secondary air separate ,rather than combining both.
After showing the original construction on stove chat with Matt and listening to the feedback.
I removed the new door and went back to the work bench.
A few hours later the improved version made its debut! There is now a window visible thru the primary intake.
Fire condition is now easily seen without opening the door. Sparks absolutely can not get into the room.
Burn season is fast approaching here in northern Montana. I will be burning soon.
The small test burns I have been able to make show this door meeting and exceeding all expectations!
I am gearing up now and plan on making a limited number of these doors for sale this winter as well as making secondary air tubes.
Working on getting some photo's on here. Until I do, here is the post with photo's at permies. ( permies.com/t/145824/Building-door-batch-box)
