Hi all; Converting 2 J tubes over to batch box's this spring. I have a question on port depth. All graphs show 2" as the preferred depth. My insulated fire bricks are, of course 2.5" . Do I need to try and cut them back to 2" thick? I know I can buy 2" CF board if I must, but I have Skamol bricks here now. I would really like to use them.

As a rule of thumb: port depth should be about the same as the width. So half an inch more or less doesn't make a difference. It'll make a difference when the depth is twice of the width or, for that matter, less than half of the width. There's a fair bit of leeway, as it were. So your Skamol bricks are fine, for a 6" and an 8" system alike.
