Hi everybody!
Well, in order to turn my first bell info an oven. I need to shorten my riser.
I started a thread a while back, about transforming it into a kind of dsr with a stub of riser above. But, this is complicated.
What i envision now, is making a horizontal rectangular box above my shortened riser. Lined with superwool.
The riser would be shortened of 50 cm. Ans the box would extend 50cm or more to the side, making an inverted L shape.
I can then exit on the side, or on the top.
Would you think this could work?

What about widening the top half of the riser and sending it around the oven. That way you keep the vertical flow. That's what we did with this build. donkey32.proboards.com/thread/3316/7-sidewinder-bake-oven-benchAnd it works great. Although we did build the oven atop a full height riser. Make sure you have plenty of room around the oven and an oversized exit with all those turns you don't want to pinch it.

You could therefore think of using the entire upper part of the bell as an oven, leaving large openings on the sides so that everything works like the usual bell. Without creating a real oven above the riser. I've been thinking about this drawing for a while, maybe with a cooking plate on it?!?!
PS. Yashintoda uses short risers in its sidewinders, but we should know if the part that comes after the riser, in this case the oven, is decisive for the combustion quality

Joseph, Indy. Thanks a lot for your replies. My oven is setup like this for the moment. With the bell's exit at the bottom under the grid. What i would like to do, is reduce the heat riser's height. Make it go under the grid, and put a big firebrick slab just right bellow the door. Let's say, one more month before i light it i think, month and a half may be.

Ciao Max, you read my mind ... that's exactly what I had in mind for an oven, a riser under the refractory plate and on one side an opening so that in any case the heat reaches the sky above the oven. It will be a rather hot plate with a pizza with an excellent "soil" and no ash on the food. how many degrees does your oven reach max?

I'm not sure the oven reaches high temperatures in the dsr2

no riser + oven. Just add an upper box to an existing BB? I'm not too keen on that route. My batch is huge, and imho, gases need time in the riser to fully burn. Plus, i dont think i have enough room for the top box.

max your current riser is built with a prefabricated flue with a cut for expansion?
