I am in the information gathering, money gathering stage. I have a 24'x30'x21' leaky shop. I intend to build Peter's 3 barrel batch box system with brick as it is the most simple bb system. I have also been looking at building a solar collector on the roof of the shop to add some additional heat. It occurred to me that maybe I should put the two ideas together by adding a 10' pebble bench and running the air ducts into the mass. Has this been tried? Is it worth the effort, or would it be more effective by just blowing the air into the building? I don't want to add complexity to the project, but if putting some ducting in will potentially pay off, I am interested.
Thanks for all of the help!

I've always wondered why people dont use them. Temp output is not much, ~50-60C and you have to put them on the side of the house, connect in a loop and block the air flow when not sunny. here are a few DIY models: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLGZPti_n-M

They make green housing in the far up north that do something similar. Basically, they dig down 6 feet or more and make a box filled with gravel. The sides are insulated with foam. They bury pipe in the ground with holes in it. During the day when it is warm in the greenhouse, the air is pumped down into the gravel, warming it. The gravel release the extra heat at night. .
