2 seasons with 7" 5 minute riser in a stainless tube. No signs of failure. Some discoloration at the bottom, where the flame hits. I'm not touching it, it still works.

Thread resurrection. This is THE original 5-minute riser after one year of use (I finally got around to uploading the video I took way back in 2019). youtu.be/uyKA6CR4epk

Three seasons (2019, 2020, 2021) on a 5-minute riser no problems. The bottom 12" of the riser is cast into the core of the stove (Harbison Walker Mizzou Castable Refractory) the rest is made of 1" superwool inside a 10" galvanized steel heating duct for an 8" inside diameter. The ceramic wool is pinned to the inside of the steel duct in several places using nichrome wire and some ceramic tubes I got on ebay. The base of the heating duct is mechanically attached to the top of the core, and also set in a bed of reftactory mortar to seal up any leaks. I've put a cam in to inspect it every fall when I clean everything out for the next heating season, no problems.
