The response from the local expert was that the kast-o-lite 30 must be cured to a min of 800f for one hour to fully lock the mechanical binders. After that it should be impervious to water infiltration. OK, that rules out kitchen stove. I was thinking a simple 7" rocket built from firebricks discharging into a steel drum with appropriate baffles and deflectors can provide that level of heat without too much of a problem; would that drum need to be lined with rockwool to limit radiant losses to maintain that 800*F? Either that or make friends with a pizza shop owner Turtle |

Well keith, my plan is to use it in the feed tube, burn chamber and riser of a 4" J tube, so as long as I slowly bring it up to 800, and beyond, I think the internal temps of the stove itself will easily surpass 800. Until then I need to keep it out of the rain.
Funny, I also thought of the pizza oven idea, but thought it too outlandish. Thanks for falling on that sword for me.

If you have a self cleaning oven check to see what temp it gets to. Some are as high as 900°F

I offered the pizza shop owner some drainage cement bulkheads for his farm property today, like, hundreds of pounds of heavy fixtures. Haven't had the courage to ask him to bake my castings... yet

Turtle, with connections Good luck with that. While pizza ovens would be excellent 'kiln' candidates for our experiments, I'm not sure they'd want the off gassing in their cash cow equipment. |
