We use "secondary burn" to refer to what happens when the gases are re-mixed that last time, in the taurus at the top of the heat riser. Don't know about its technical accuracy. It's something Ernie has been working on, making that gap "just so." Too big a gap between heat riser and capturing barrel seems to adversely affect the burn, in spite of the barrel being theoretically "after" the burn chamber.

.. I used to operate on the theory that there were pressure tricks going on. I've found that changes in volume below the heat riser can improve (and the opposite) performance. I seem to remember that Ernie's old hot water heater at The Castle made a big noise.. It had a sudden volume change at the bottom of the barrel, which seemed to "pump" towards itself.
This secondary burn idea is new to me.. It makes a certain sense and takes my mind in new and fun directions.
