Nice! Is that a stainless barrel? (I can get two decades old ones for $75-$100 each - if they're worth it?)

Yeah its stainless and I at least 20 times every winter get it cherry red on top, still not showing any signs of weakness this is its 4th winter burn season...
I got it online and paid more for shipping than the cost of the barrel, I recently got two more locally that used to hold nitric acid for 50$ a piece.
Even at 75$ to 100$ I think they are worth it...

that's around 650C (1200F) Is a dog sleeping there all night? I'm curious about sleeping near high termal radaiation.

No the dog is just waiting for my daughter to get home from school, then they spend the day and night together. But she doesn't move much for those 8 hours while my daughter is gone.
Typically the mass stores all the heat, it isn't 650C for more than 15 minutes, we just fire it a couple of times a day in the winter.
