Yesterday I welded a chimney damper and a bypass. Damper turns 270° to close.... Here is bypass...

Hi, On the door for ashes and primary air of a cookstove , I used the first rectangular system ( in aluminium, the second one, nicer, round, in stainless steel but 10 cm in diameter was too big). Both were tight, even the cheapest one! (on pictures, metal is brass, more expensive...) It is possible that, compared to Klemen's and Peter's system, the air might be not as well injected downward, that is toward the floor channel... Benoit Edit 1 : Thank you Satamax! Edit 2 : The round one is a bad idea here as it would not fit being too big, sorry! HM, I am thinking that those slits provide higher air drag compared to only one opening...

And Laiton is brass. Otherwise, english speakers might not understand. Wow, Satamax.. I didn't know Laiton is brass... It sound like a brand-name :-)

Oh well, I just realised that chimney damper could be made only with 90° turn and still be secured in both positions in gravity only.... :-\

Yeah I was about to be pedantic and point out 90 degrees ... instead of 270, but you got there quick!

Here is the begining of the build... The wet saw didnt arrive yet. I was fiddling with large angle grinder... Its not that acurate cut, but what can I do... I use clay slip with fine quartz sand for brick laying. Around the openings and cleaning holes I think I will use oertnet heat resistant mortar... Building with chamotte bricks is much simpler compared to handmade red bricks that are really not that exact in size/thickness ( +/- 5mm easily) This is it for now...

Progress. Here is the recent progress... I got the wet saw this week so i can finally cut same dimension repeatedly :-)<br>In the following days i will rise the back wall and after that start with firebox and riser... This work has been done in 8 days, each day 4-5 hours.. I have a feeling that i am a slow builder?!? Well i don't intend to start to build faster just for the sake of it... But i would like to hear about other's speed of building... Also i know that i am much more careful than with my build :-) I guess it is because i build for someone else and i really want it to be good work (to a degree that i am able to achieve :-) Regards, Klemen

Looks nice! Did you cast the bench slabs? Yes, with regular portlant cement. I do not expect the temperatures to get too high.. ... And I added glass fibers..

Looks good, I see you used clips for the firebox like Tulikivi (in the past, don't know if they still do) and some German builders.

Looks good, I see you used clips for the firebox like Tulikivi (in the past, don't know if they still do) and some German builders. Yes, i tried and i think i did it right. I used 3mm welding rods. I saw this kind of work recently in and opened tiled stove.. Today i cut 3cm chamotte to trapesoidal form to make octagonal heatriser... Next time i will cut slightly smaller octagon to help me with holding the correct shape... I used Ortner fire mortar, not clay... I am thinking that it would be better to leave one gap unglued from bottom to top... So that it can expand freely... Around this 3cm chamotte octagon i will put 3cm vermiculite board for an added insulation, sturdiness tightness... Comments welcome!
