My initial thought was to try to use an outdoor rocket stove, more or less centrally located to several livestock barns/coops to distribute a little warmth to the buildings via radiant heating. However after reading the discussions related to heating water and/or heat distribution with water, I've decided it's probably not a good idea. The purpose for the heating is because where I live -30 (when it gets to -45 it seriously sucks) degrees Celsius isn't uncommon in the winter, and I just want to provide a warmer space for the animals when it's that cold, or the animals got caught outside in a storm (they forage free range all year) so they aren't standing out cold and wet. Barn/coop temperatures certainly don't have to reach normal room temperatures for people, just enough to alleviate the stress on the animals.
I had also considered solar panels where water runs through them, but I'm between the 52/53 parallel I don't think we get enough sun during the winter to be able to facilitate it.
I also considered putting a stove in each outbuilding and kind of creating an elongated tapered bench that would run the length of the structure on the wall where food and water would be, or in the center of the structure. That would create issues without some serious fencing around it because goats really like to climb things, and poultry like to perch both WILL go to the highest warmest spot which would be part of the stove. I tend to believe they would try to chew/peck on the cob too. The fact that I would be doing some marathon running between barns until the temp was right, while really good cardio, would get old pretty fast.
Now that I know what's not going to work... lol.. I'm hoping that someone might be able to offer some suggestions of how I can achieve this. It would be 4 structures (5 if I include the greenhouse).
Thank you in advance. I apologize if this is the wrong forum to ask this in.
