Hi everybody.
Well, i have a door from a fireplace, that i would like to use on a bell. For a cleaning door, viewing the heat riser's top, and ease of assembly.
I wouldn't doubt it if it wasn't sealed with puty. I tried to hit the glass with a blowtorch with no ill effect, and the puty (grey stuff that they used to hold windows long time ago) was getting red on the surface, but not realy burning, and after whe i touched it, it flaked away. I'm wondering if i can use this door.

Sounds like it should be OK. If the glass breaks you can just replace it with stove glass with fire-rope around the edges, and if you need something to hold it in place a few self-tappers do the trick.
