p-channel is not that bad sata if your typical burn lasts for an hour, how long do you see flames shooting out of riser, 15min? more?

I had hoped that it would last longer in that spot.

So about an hours burn duration gives about 3600 hours of heat intensity. I suppose that could be considered pretty good for 3mm mild steel plate. I wonder how that would compare to stainless steel? Eric

Orange, i barely ever see the flammes shooting out. hmm, than the viewing window needs to be in the heat riser. Somewhere in the middle so the glass doesnt break.

I meant that the window should be part of the riser, like 20cm above the firebox for satisfying experience Yasins test have shown that the BB burns clean even without insualtion and a smal riser.

This is workshop offcuts. And when it is full, it gets dumped in a big bag.

First ever attempt to use the first bell as an oven. Store bought lasagna. Nothing fancy. But it got crusty as i like it. Next step, weld two pieces of rebar to the right inside, to hold a grid.

So a little update is in order. This is the bottom of the barrel, on the firebox top, after 3 seasons heating. And i have made a little mod, that i wanted to do for a while, last night. I already cooked on it, and burned myself twice. Really, this is the way, black oven right next to the riser. I'll see what i can do with this new "contraption" And, all the pics which were lost, are back up at permies. permies.com/t/44806/Cobbling-workshop-heater
