5 to 10% of heat riser CSA. I would say 5% is adequate, 7% being maximum.

Thanks Shilo. I've only been measuring temperatures at the base of the flue. The highest I've seen is 137°C. (Higher up, it's cooler.)
But since we added the chimney (and a p-channel), it's been drawing great, and the overfuelling problem is gone, even when I put as much wood as I can in the feed.
Do you really think I need insulation? What will it give me? Is it just to prevent creosote buildup?
