Is there any dry mass media that will work? I was thinking on building a cement board frame then filling with Spedi dri (clay formula)? This is in a shop.

Speedi Dri looks like a fine granular material, and would probably act like sand as a thermal mass - that is, it would insulate more than store and transmit heat. If it dissolves in water, you could make cob out of it with sand and make a solid, rigid thermal mass.
If you really want a loose fill material, larger gravel and rocks have been used. This is about half as effective as cob in a mass situation, according to Paul Wheaton.

Looking at one price for Speedi Dri ($30 for a 50lb bag), I think there would be lots of more effective and cheaper options (unless you can get it without paying).
