Matt, I have been playing a lot with a variation on your core, keeping the slot at the rear left and tweaking the path from the back port to the front riser stub. I haven’t posted recently, but I have a similar experience with the secondary air delivery. That is, even with the pipe open at the top, there doesn’t seem to be a jet of flame coming out the top, suggesting that the secondary air is delivered before it hits the top. I also don’t observe flame / smoke being sucked into the top of the port, so I’m more inclined to think that the top of the secondary air pipe is relatively inactive.
Peter, I’m intrigued by the simpler, shorter air delivery pipe that you describe. I await your reporting with great anticipation!

Hope you aren't in a hurry DCish, I am very busy filling a a website. It's meant to be bi-lingual but translating is a pain. So the report about my heater has to wait for now.

No worries, I just didn't want you to think there might be a lack of interest! My own progress and posting has been decidedly sloth-like, so I'm definitely not one to be critical. By the way, is it a fire-related website you're working on? If so, I'd love to see the link, even if it's not bilingual. Regards, DCish

Yes, it is about fire in general and batchrockets in particular. An announcement will be issued when the first chapter is ready, hopefully after the weekend.
