Max; My entire mass is a lasagna mix of cob and slate ! Really easy to work with ! Layer of cob pat it down by hand, toss on slate tap down ... add cob , pat by hand ... They break to size at the tap of a hammer, pile easily in what ever vehicle you have to transport. All in all good stuff! Get all you can. Attachments:

With this stuff work as the roof of a bell? i would Say, depends how hot is your bell. It's laminated, so it should hold a while. But with too much heat, I would be affraid it would delaminate.

Sedimentary rock that is laminar tends to have a problem with exploding if heated rapidly before totally drying out. Most locations in the mass should not get too hot too soon, so you will probably be alright. Used as the roof of a bell it will be exposed to high fast heat, so I would advise extreme care in drying it out first.

Anybody else has tried Slate as top of the bell or inside the combustion chamber? Any other rock, other than soapstone?

Slate, or any schistic rock is no good for High heat areas.
