It is December 21st this year. The Winter Solstice is my New Year's Eve. Not for any religious reasons, I just hate that it gets dark at 5pm. It's not right. I want the growing season back. So as you can tell, I am already counting the days. I will put a "Happy" wish back up here soon.

could't agree more. not being a morning person i really notice the short days. have celebrated the solstice for a round 40 years now. don't bother with the rest of it at all. we light a outdoor fire have a good meal and share presents, which reminds me........ it was fun trying to find somewhere to light a fire when i lived in a concrete box in the city. happy solstice

Happy New Year! Spring is on it's way, seriously. Two weeks of grey skies and counting...

Happy solstice/new year, Daryl! The end is in sight! Or should I say, the beginning of Spring is in sight! Looks about the same here in Wisconsin. Nice view over the river, by the way.

The winter solstice, , something which has been celebrated for more than 8000 years! Most certainly more. I can't remember how many years the moon phase prehistoric calendars of eastern europe dates back. But we're talking pre agriculture times!
So stuff religions, santa, saint niklass and schwarze peter, the hogfather, and the père fouetard. The huts and all that! And get back to the real event!
It's the shortest day in a whole year, and things can only get better!
