P.S. Seal up the top and see how much hotter it gets.

I built one of these for my Mom last year, now she pretty much ONLY heats her space with it and uses her wood stove only if I bring the kids over for dinner. The thing is quite good at just taking the edge off. Her house isn't a total ice-box with the thing on.. It's the way my Ma likes it, I guess.
I just made a couple of metal stands for holding the pot, Will be giving one as a "White Elephant Gift" for X-Mas. The other I'll use in one of my mud huts, it might be just right for a 150 square foot cob hut.

Donkey, would a tin can be safe to use inside the pot? I tried it once tonight. I don't want to kill myself though. I made a mini channel mass type heater. It seemed to work better than the pot alone but I am worried about fumes.

It seemed to work better than the pot alone but I am worried about fumes. There are all kinds of coatings in cans. I don't know what all they are or what the effects of breathing fumes from them. You could toss the can in a fire to burn off anything nasty before using it in a candle heater. ??

Good idea. Glad I asked you that.

My mum has used a couple of these in a two pot config for the last couple of winters. She has gas central heating but finds she doesn't need the radiator on in her lounge, the largest room, when she has these running. Not toasty warm but not freezing either. Need a jumper but thats not a bad thing.

Since I've been playing with these candle heaters and discovered how successful they are, I'm kinda wondering why all sorts of tiny stoves aren't more popular. I am also questioning how much stove is needed for a small place.

You know, I have sort of discovered this while smoking food with bricks. It doesn't take a whole lot to heat those things up to a certain temp.
