I was thinking hardware mesh or a couple of grills placed over the riser to break up the bigger pieces. Hardware mesh wouldn't last very long but would be the most efficient at breaking bigger pieces into little pieces. I was thinking about just using the J channel instead of the whole mass heater. It's the little, flying stuff that's the problem. It goes further down the pipes than the big stuff and ALWAYS seeks a spot that you can't get at easily.

That was one thing I always wondered about. How do you clean 30+ feet of pipe that's in a cob bench. Swizzle

You need strategically placed clean outs where you can either use a long handled swab or an extension hose on a shop vac.
Good to line up at elbows so that one opening can access 2 runs, etc.

I was thinking some kind of a swab on a toilet snake. Swizzle
