When we were first married 27 years ago, I did all the cooking for a year because I got home from Med school before my wife got home from her job. I haven't cooked since then with the exception of grilling and chili. Now I'm cooking again every night for the first time in 26 years and frankly I don't remember anything so it's like starting from scratch. I just used a pressure cooker for the first time last week for a pot roast, that didn't turn out too bad. This week I made pork and sauerkraut in a slow cooker. After a couple hours it only felt luke warm, so I set the oven for 400• and put it in there to finish cooking. After about 15 minutes I smelled smoke. It turns out the plastic handles on the slow cooker pot lid are NOT designed for oven use! The glass lid survived, the pork and kraut were good, but the plastic handle that runs the whole way across the lid looks like it's out of a Salvador Dali painting.

Yeah, in general, slow cookers will take at least 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low to cook a meal. I got one because I am getting back into cooking again instead of eating out all the time. I make a lot of soups and tend to forget about them slow cooking on the stove top . If you want a cheap slow cooker, they are on sale because the kids are going back to school. I got mine at Walmart. Here's another attempt at posting my soup:

Yeah. I can't stop. Chunky Tuscan vegetable soup. The floaters are zucchini. I should also add that I grew the tomatoes and peppers.
