Strawberries love them. The concept should work well with mushrooms too. Maybe I will try that down the road. This is 1 of the 1 1/2 strawberry plants that made it outside through the winter. Still nursing the 1/2.

I am guessing that "Hugel Pots" are set up similar to hugelkultur beds. Cool idea!

Exactly. I use small branches picked up on walks through the woods. The grass clippings for mulch are to give some protection against the frost.
There is a guy from Northern California that uses logs for his larger containers.

Interesting read. Thanks! Good luck with the 1/2. I didn't get around to mulching my strawberries last fall. I have about 70 young plants that I added in the last half of last summer. I was concerned about them being another casualty of the cold, dry winter. Now that it is warming up, they all have grown some new leaves. So far, so good. I am looking forward to fresh strawberries almost as much as my daughter.
