yes we put the bisque with glazing... no cracks. most likely for bisquit firing we should use very little wood and rising the temps slower.

thinking about raku firing. if you had the top barrel on its side and split in half lengthwise you could have a large shelf and hinge the top half of the drum. then when it is time to remove the pots you could easily lift the top half of the top drum and have easy access to the pots to pick them up to drop them in the sawdust.you would need to cut a curve in the bottom drum,so a bit more work. this idea could really fly as a cross between a raku kiln using a large gas torch and a traditional wood fired kiln. i need something to experiment with on refractories as being discussed in a couple of other threads. i have the drums and a pair of tin snips.... plus my experimental 6 inch rocket is all set up. time to get the angle grinder out i think.
