Yep, the 30 gallon barrel is tall too. I've got a rather large firewood round that I stand on. Putting it in a pit or building up a (non-flammable) patio or something is a great idea.

Great post! what would be the advantages / disadvantages betwean rocket stoves and TLUD or other gassifiers, besides that you get charcoal as a byproduct of gassification?

Well, the TLUD is a batch stove. You fill it once, it burns down, that's it. Most of the gasifiers that I know of are batch stoves, there are continuous ones but they tend to be complicated and/or expensive. Gasifiers tend to need regular fuel sizes. Everything that goes into the TLUD needs to be chopped into 2 inch (more or less) cubed pieces; not too large, not too small or it won't burn properly.
