Hi all.
Trying to rap my head around a simple question but I get lost somewhere...
What if I want to couple 2 stoves with CSA 150mm (177cm2) to 1 exit flue.
1.If both stoves would run at the same time, the exit should be double I guess (so +/- 220mm = 380cm2) 2.Is it safe to compromise and go for 200mm (= 314cm2)(standard flue size) or rather go for 250mm (490cm2)(which would be way too large) 3.If only 1 stove is burning, how does the 200mm flue at the end influence the burn? In other words: what if your flue is a lot larger then your CSA. 4.Comparing gasses to fluids: If a pipe is filled with water it is full, right? How does that compare to combustion gasses?
Thanks for helping me to get some peace of mind regarding this question :-)
Cheers Piet

There is a construction that is said to work for combining chimney stacks. It's called a shunt system, try google "shunt chimney". Apart from that, I wouldn't do what you propose, combining means for one stove it's too large and for two they are influencing each other. Keep in mind both the stoves need to have the ability to close them completely.

I know in Sweden the chimney sweep allows two stoves to be connected to the same chimney stack if only one stove is lit at any one time (and the case I am talking about they would both be on the same floor, i.e. not sure if they are OK on different floors). If you are talking about the stoves being rocket mass heaters like the batch rockets and DSR2 with an active fire burning need of 45-75 minutes there is no reason you could not do it having one fire at the time. And with a complete shut down of the air inlet on one stove at the time there would be no need for a stove shut off damper by the chimney stack to select which stove is the one that is active. Only one stove would be active at any one time so the chimney can be the CSA of the system as intended. (This statement is of coarse based on there not being any regulations against such a set-up where you are based, and that the spaces are equipped with smoke and CO detectors.)
