Hi guys , Newbie here , I have poured over all the designs for rocket stoves on YouTube , etc and have some questions before I get out the angle grinder and welder.I fancy building a rocket for the workshop ,so i can do projects when its cold , and keep my tools free from rust!
Q1 Those rockets that are equipped with an ashcan , do they work ?, or its it like having an ashtray on a motorbike , I would imagine the forced draught will pull the fine ash into the burn tube and ultimately into the drum that surrounds the fire tube ? anyone have an answer , do we de-ash the drum?
Q2 How airtight does that drum have to be around its base , i was thinking of using a tall old propane cylinder, cutting off the bottom . Do I need that joint air-sealed , with like asbestos string ?, or is a good flat fit all I need ....
Q3 Fancy rockets now seem to have a vortex to spin the secondary hot gasses around in the fire tube , does this make the machine much more effective , if so whats the best material to use for the fire tube ?
Q4 where is the best point , in your opinion , to take the exhaust gasses out of the drum , I know its low down , low down the better , or is there a formula for it?
Q5 I know the rockets make a growl ,hence their name , but is there a way of deadening the sound down a little ?
yours in anticipation esxman located in Greece .

Thanks SATAMAX and VORTEX , the room is 3 metres high , and 4M wide by 16 meters long made from cinder block 18 cm wide with 2 smallish windows . It doesnt get really cold in the winter , outside coldest is about 5 degrees , but unheated tends to be damp .

Q1 I have an ashdrop, 90% goes down that, 10% goes downsteam, both need to be cleaned once a year.
Q2 Air sealing will help with startup and initial draw, prevents cool air infiltrating the air flow. I take my stainless steel drum off every other year and clean out the fly ash real good and then reseal with high temp silicone
