Hi all,
I was wondering if its possible to build a batch box that is more narrow in the back and wider at the front, so you have a better view at the fire. Or would this effect the combustion nagatively?
I am building a 15 cm system and the batchbox you would normally make would be quite small; the firechamber would normally be 21,6 cm wide, 32,4 high and 43,8 deep.
My idea was to make the chamber something like 21,6 at the back and 32,4 at the front.
What do you guys think?

Thanks Satamax!
Wow that is an awesome build, looks really good. Lucky i speak dutch too!
Its not exactly what i had in mind, but it does look like different batch shapes can work;-) A window on the side will mean that the heat can't be distributed evenly in that heatchamber, but i guess thats not much of a problem.

Within certain boundaries, the shape of the firebox can be of varied proportions. Two weeks ago, in Münster Germany, I participated in the build of an outdoor sculpture with an integrated batchrocket. No door, no secondary air supply and a horizontally positioned, cylindrical firebox. This happened to be a 250 mm (10") system, the firebox being the same volume according to the recommended values. I did the design of the batchrocket core and it worked. The thing went smokeless in about 10 minutes, wet and all, accompanied by a low rumbling roar. The back wall of the firebox was still a flat vertical wall so I think, until proven otherwise, this is an essential detail. Experiences in the past did prove that rounding off the back wall and the edges of the port is a wrong decision. Since you are able to read Dutch, please see pictures and text at www.ecologieforum.eu/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6310. I still have to write a similar article in English on this forum when I am up to it.
