Is it feasible to combine a standard 8 inch J tube with a barrel and connect it to a bench which would be like a bell? Someone shared this design with me on this forum and it gave me some ideas.
Would this concept work if the barrel is used?
Also, I am trying to figure out what to do with my current bench. It has about 28 feet of 8 inch ducting inside of it but there isn't enough room to fit a J-tube to connect to it.
Originally, I was planning to feed this bench with a J-tube built outside the house. But now I want to use that outside heater to heat water.
Inside this room (12 meters in diameter and in a mild climate) I want to heat the bench. Since I don't have room to fit the J-tube I will need to tear open this bench to fit it. Since I have to tear some of it out, I was thinking that the bell design shown in the link above would be better that using the ducts. But will it work?
Should I just try to make the best of the 8 inch ducts I already built, or tear it up and build a new design like the one shown in the link above?
Finally, my last question is about the materials used in this bell design shown in the link above. Could I use concrete instead of brick? What about cob without straw? I don't have easy access to so many bricks. Dustin

Dustin first question would be whats you chimney like.If you will have good chimney on the end of the system ,i would build a 18cm batch box and connected it to your current 20 cm ducking bench. For bell bench without a bricks search this forum for"half barrel bench".But if you are not planning for good chimney you should go for 20cm J core.

radek how do you define a good chimney? I can build a good one. Also, what is the total length of the 18 cm batchbox? Maybe I can squeeze it into my room without tearing out the existing bench end. Dustin

I changed my system. I built a 6-inch batch box. I now need to connect it to half barrels in my bench. See pictures. I want to connect 2.5 meters length of half barrels, then exit using 8-inch tubing. Or perhaps I can create concrete slabs to cover this, instead of half barrels. Is there an advantage to have more space inside the bell? If I don't use half barrels, and instead using slabs to cover it, I will have more space in the bell. I am not clear how to connect the half barrel to the heat exchanging barrel. See my photo. The gasses will need to move down from the full barrel and connect to the half barrel about 8 inches below it. I think I read somewhere that the height of the entrance into the half barrels needs to be lower than the exit on the other end. Is that correct? If so, by how much?
