I must be a bit tired but I can not figure out how it works! I understand the venturi/Bernouilli principle but the drawing doesn't help me to understand ! The Chet portal is standing, like the S portal, right? But how does come in the air? Sorry, I must be stupid! Thanks Benoit

there is several methods- 1. the air come from a channel that ran under the firebox 2. the air come from a channel that ran on top of the firebox 3. the air come from a channel that ran threw the barrel 4. the air come from the barrel
our last choose is a combination between 2,3, and 4.

The issue the guys in the UK have is materials are so darn expensive. And size and weight. That is why many choose metal. Going off-topic slightly but depends what you call expensive. If you're used to building a J-tube from bricks you've scrounged then spending £250 on firebricks, IFBs, perlite & Robax glass etc. to build a high performance batch box will be expensive. But you get what you pay for...

FYI - I'm just going by what guys over in the UK have told me. Honestly, it's not that big of an issue. People are going to build based on their circumstances. To believe that full blown RMHs are the only way to go is very limiting. A standard brick fireplace wouldn't even be structurally sound in my old crappy farmhouse.
Anyway, the reason I hopped on the thread was to point out that some of these "metal" stoves aren't just metal any longer. I was trying to be nice and informative.

I'd like to say potty is a nice bloke am a subscriber on his channel he uses metal because that's what he uses I don't think he's trying to re-invent the wheel it's just his choice of material
Also here in uk scavenging materials is Alot harder not everyone can afford to buy new
I tend to agree with daryl all things are never even nor is it a level playing field we can only build and use what we can
Not to change the thread or anything just think without opinions, discussions and experiments we would still be slaves to corporate greed
Here in uk most people are oblivious to other forms of energy they rely on huge companies full filling there needs and taking the cash the cost of gas for example is very high and a huge percent out of many people's income
I think that's why people like yourselves globally are making the difference and a small voice can shout the loudest This isn't a rant or thread hi jack I am a little sore my gas bill arrived this morning
Keep up the good work
Dusty

Can the Chet be fed solely from ERG, or is fresh air required?

it can. we think it will work slighty better with some fresh air but it's a good question if it's worth the extra work. we rushed to check a lot of things and now is the time for peter to sit down and take a closer look at the graphs and think about the conclusions.

Thank You Shilo, I begin to understand! (it took time!) An image showing the portal and where it takes air would help but I supose it will come a bit later! Thank you again! Benoit

Or are they now 12.5% each?

it's hard to say. there is no one number that will be correct for every situation.
