Forgive me if it is obvious, but what would one make a p-channel from?

Yeah, I have a vise, angle grinder, recipicating saw, drills, etc. What I need is the source matirial. What does one start with? For example, steel studs do not come in 2" widths. I would use blak iron pipe, by it isn't square, who know how well it work. Bending sheet metal in a vise between two peices of wood seems hard, but doable. Making a second bend 2 inches from the first seems more difficult. If there is an easier way, I want to know.

You can get rectangular tubing that is a lot thicker.

I don't even use pieces of wood, clamp the sheet metal in the vice, and bend it with a hammer. Made with salvaged stainless steel from an old fridge. If you can't make it in one piece with your vice, make two halves, with the sides the full size for one of thoses, so you can assemble theses. Holding theses with wire or aluminium tape. The insert in the firebox is only three sides, with ears to hold it on top of the firebox. It's pish easy to do! By the way, i use a vice!

hmm, looks fiddly, but clearly doable. Thanks for the gritty details Satamax!
