hi, been reading and researching rocket stoves/heaters on and off for a while now. I followed a link to here from, Burn Chambers for Rocket Mass Heaters by Ray & Randi Dudley and must say I like what I've found so far. mostly learned that "Metal Is Doomed" and "Metal Is Doomed" I think that's right.
right I have a 12 x 14 ft shed/work shop I want to heat to make it an all year round "man cave". I will have put some insulation in very soon, but looking for a small design J tube heater maybe encasing the insulated riser with an old propane/lpg tank I have lying around (it was going to be a base for a wood stove but rockets are more efficient) I don't have the room for a mass storage system so it will just heat the air whilst I'm in there. I have many questions so I'll pop a few down,
1. pellets or wood for the fuel? 1a, which is best in a small sized rocket?
2. as "Metal Is Doomed" what is a good material to use, brick, tile or refractory cement "pored" into a mould to make a 1 piece design?
3. has anyone made a rocket that runs on waste oil, as I get gallons free? off searching now, catch you all later Tk

Hi and welcome There's a utube series from a bloke calling himself zero has an excellent rocket heater that he now uses wood pellets He gives away the less detailed plans And also sells the exact plans if needed His build is to warm his workshop and had made it so it can be serviced when things start to break Zero fossil fuels I think is the full name youtu.be/P_f7927h7jQNot sure if link is allowed or even works if not feel free to remove or edit

Hi from a fellow brit.
If you are going small then a batchbox might be less finickity, though there is a good thread on here for a 31/2" one.
I planned to put burner outside my shed and pipe in heat under a bench. Was going to use storage heater bricks for mass.
Firebrick is the easiest material to work with so build and experimental core first to see how it goes. where in the uk are you as reclaimed can be best solution.
you should look into bells for storing heat as they can take up less room. A couple of oil barrels in the corner for example.
pellets need a bit of experimentation as far as I know but can be very effective. Scrap wood is easier to find.

thanks for the welcomes, the link does work dustylfc, thanks for that. talltuk, I'm in Staffordshire, where are you? don't know a lot about bells, but that's why I'm here lol. can sometimes get a lot of scrap wood but other times none at all, so I thought pellets for availability. was going to build a waste oil burner, as I get as much as I want free. but thought better of it due to mess/smell/pollution.

I am hanging in Norfolk. Staffs shouls be great for reclaimed stuff which is harder to get here. No heavy industry. Thise ebay ones look good but hard to build with due to thiness I think

Am currently building an outside space to build a masonry batch box hopefully with a bell or bench still researching But I will probably order from these guys but will make sure I get pallet load as delivery is quite high due to weight kilnlinings.co.uk/I will be using insulating brick for riser And normal dense firebrick for batch I'd like to cast my own once I get my head around the mould making Though I think the guys from the link provided make moulds to so maybe I could gather the dimensions from the guys off here From what I've read on pellets is there harder to get going and keep burning but I haven't read much about them Am more inclined to copy peters batch because he has put in Alot of time and effort into it

Definitely keep to the spreadsheet. It hsd been well tested. Kilnlings have some great deals but you have to spend £100 min befire VAT and delivery. When I have more funds I hope to order pallet loads from them.
