could i put a damper in my flue before it goes into the ceiling and shut it when fire dies down to keep heat in mass so it won't go outside. and put two bricks on feed tube to close it so fumes won't come into house?

I did it with my stove and it makes a noticeable difference, especially in windy weather. I bought this old cast iron chimney damper from the U.S. It has some holes in the middle for safety.
