Yes, yes very interesting! In an few ways.
So here i am preparing to build a 6" batch box with griddle, oven and mass harvesting via bell around the oven and down thru the bench. Something akin to Joris' and Robert's recent builds. And the S-ports/channel is looking like the way to go. Just waiting for Peter, in all his tireless and selfless intention - to nail down the specifics of shapes, dimensions and micro features, much as he did for the J-feed. I imagine that once that piece is dialled for a front opening box, it would be nice to figure out the tweaks for a Joris side opener.
Now here is the challenge.
Sjang, the heater i am preparing to build will be a paid gig for some very cool people doing very important low-paid social work. My last pair of clients had spent decades doing street work and setting up medical clinics for people with HIV and addictions. They built a cabin/home way up river for themselves and fellow workers to be able to get out of town and rejuvenate from exhaustion. No one has much money, and i am preparing to offer this next build for the same as the last one - 5 weeks of my time for $3000 plus materials. This is the minimum i can get by on feeding a family of 4.
In a sense, i am a professional, but i do not self-identify as such. And although commerce is involved, it is only because we live in a system where rent and expenses are expected to be paid. I would rather be living in a less formal economy, so in that sense my intentions are not commercial. I'm not out to get rich, but i wouldn't mind being able to make a humble living at it.
My motives for building are mostly altruistic. I see that the more people around the cooler climes of the world come into contact with these bone warming devices, the more they will be able to chill out and help alleviate the global escalation of violence we are immersed in. I perceive masonry heaters, rocket mass heaters... anything we can sit on, be warmed by, cook and dry over... as medical offerings. (h)eart(h)
With all this said, Sjang, i appreciate that you would like to be respected for your pioneering efforts in this field. It looks like you have been experimenting with box rockets well before its evolution began charting on this open source. And i offer you all due respect for your having thought about, trialed and written about this secondary air intake variant of a batch box...
So my questions are:
How much are you wishing to take ownership of the optimized version of the S-port that comes to pass?
And in what way(s) would you like to be compensated by people like myself wishing to utilize that feature in earning livelihoods?
Frankly, i am hopeful that you will find much value in your name being echoed through the oral, and etched into the written historical accounts of this vital evolution in fire burning. It is happening....
And if you want folks to send a few $ your way each time we use the port in a build... i'd be open to giving that some consideration.
